How to Actually Make a Change That Sticks

How to Actually Make a Change That Sticks

We’ve all started new fitness plans in January that fade by mid-February. The reason isn’t lack of willpower; it’s lack of structure and support.

To make changes stick, start by making them realistic. If you’re adding something new, like kickboxing or horse riding, commit to once a week, not five times. Success builds from small wins. You’re less likely to suffer an injury with small steps into something new.

Anchor Your New Activity

Second, anchor your new activity to something that already exists in your routine. For example, if you walk your dogs every morning, add 10 minutes of mobility afterwards. If Thursdays are your admin days, make that your gym day before or after work. I often refer to these as ‘Movement Snacks’, especially important if you don’t have time for a ‘Full Meal’.

Social Accountability

Third, add social accountability. Join a local club, class, or even a friend who wants to move more. Shared goals turn effort into fun. And do make sure that you have goals that you can strive for, either alone or with your friend. Sign up for an event… set a date in stone to achieve your goal!

Or try something adventurous this year: adult gymnastics, a roller-skating club, or a martial arts taster session. Even a local dance or Pilates studio can reignite your enjoyment of movement.

And Remember

Progress doesn’t mean “more pain, more gain.” It means better awareness, more freedom, and consistency.

Next week, we’ll wrap up the series with ideas to keep your movement journey exciting all year long.

Have you booked your self in for your next massage? Or has it been a while since you visited us at Astral Fitness? Then it is definitely time to book a return visit. We have moved to a lovely town centre location, especially perfect if you prefer the relaxing part of deep tissue and sports massage.
