Hello and welcome to this week’s blog- Pain – Have an Injury Free Summer. The fifth part in my series about staying injury free over the summer months.

Most injuries occur when people rush to do too much too soon, after doing too little for too long. Then other types of injuries occur when you ignore your body whispering an issue to you by creating a creak, crack, ache, or small pain. The only way it can get your attention to fix it is to scream at you loudly, effectively putting you out of action for several weeks, or worse, months.

But what if you have a chronic condition, and injuries and pains are part and parcel of that? Read on.

Chronic Conditions

Pain - Have an Injury Free SummerChronic conditions are classed as such because they last over a long period of time. Chronos is the ancient Greek word for time, and there you have why they are called that. But, that said, it doesn’t mean you have to suffer the condition forever, you have lots of tools at your hands to help you manage it and save you the extra pain of injuries or excessive discomfort.

I see many people for a sports massage monthly who have a variety of conditions, such as fibromyalgia, scoliosis, lupus, CFD, COPD, depression, arthritis, hypertension, to name but a few. They keep coming back every few weeks or monthly because, quite simply, it works. Sports Massage works to help them manage the pain, talk to someone at length about how they are feeling, and seek advice if they need to see someone else about what they are experiencing. And yes, I will tell you if something is beyond my remit, knowledge, or ability, and tell you who you should go and see instead.

A New Pain

If you’re experiencing a new pain, and you think it is muscles, tendons, or ligaments, then please do get in touch to have an appointment sooner rather than later, discuss your options with me before and during your treatment so you have a clear idea of what to do next. A new pain could simply be a minor injury, or it could be indicative of something else, and it helps to get that opinion early on, maybe even resolve it from being a bigger worry.
