Rest vs. Change – Which Does Your Body Need?
As I plan what I need for my new location, I’ve been thinking about how change affects not only our environment but also our bodies.
We’re often told to “rest” when we feel tired, sore, or overworked. And while rest is crucial, sometimes what the body truly needs isn’t rest – it’s change.
When Rest Helps
Rest gives the body time to repair. After an intense workout or a long day on your feet, rest is essential for healing tissues and recharging energy levels.
When Change Helps
But sometimes aches and stiffness aren’t a sign that you’ve overdone it – they’re a sign of underuse or repetition. If your lower back hurts after sitting all day, lying down longer may not be the answer. Instead, changing position, adding gentle stretches, or going for a walk can relieve discomfort better than rest.
Sports massage acts in the same way – it introduces change and movement to muscles that have become stagnant.
My New Location, Your New Movements
Planning my move has reminded me of this principle: while rest is valuable, change can be equally powerful. Whether it’s a new stretch, a new routine, or simply a new way of looking after your body, it can make you feel refreshed without stopping altogether.
So next time you feel stiff or sore, ask yourself, do I need rest, or do I just need change?
We are passionate about working with you to find what change you need, and giving you useful suggestions as well as recommendations from things we have tried in the local area. So if you’re not sure, pick our brains and find something you might just end up loving.
