‘’Instead of asking, ‘Have I worked hard enough to rest?’, I’ve started asking, ‘Have I rested enough to do my most loving, meaningful work?’.’’
Nicola Jane Hobbs
I have borrowed this quote from a business networking group I run with two other local businesswomen. It inspired me particularly this month, following on from a busy Christmas period, immediately followed up with a lot of pressure from social media to get back out there and get fitter, get stronger, join a new gym, join a gym for the first time. But what if you don’t feel like it?
You’re not alone in this at all
December, January and February are winter months. Think about what happens in Winter for the whole of the natural world… it slows down, it hibernates… it rests. If you do not view Winter as a time to rest… then when do you rest?
We have a lot placed upon our shoulders, and usually placed there by ourselves and the expectations we try to meet, including health and fitness goals. Add to that the extra load women frequently take on compared to their male family members, from the tasks around the home, and with partners and children or pets, managing how everyone else’s lives around run to ensure they get everything done, well, it can be a lot!

I felt that this quote from Psychologist and author Nicola Jane Hobbs was very apt. We have survived the Christmas season, and the dullness that January can bring with its weather and mood, and now we are approaching the end of winter, I believe that this is a perfect time to reflect on whether you have taken enough rest to look after yourself ready for what the rest of the world requires from you for the remainder of the year.
Get some rest in.
