What Needs to Change in Your Movement Routine This YearWhat Needs to Change in Your Movement Routine This Year

Once you’ve reflected on last year, it’s time to be honest about what needs to change. Not in a self-critical way, but with curiosity. Our bodies, and lives, evolve constantly, and so should the way we move. What worked for you at 20, won’t at 30, and the same as you move into each decade.

Maybe you’ve been dealing with persistent stiffness or joint pain that you’ve been ignoring. Maybe you’re simply bored of the same workouts. Or maybe you’re craving a social element, something that gets you moving and connecting.

Start small

If your body feels tight and tired, don’t add more intensity. Try mobility training, yoga, or gentle strength work first. If your body feels under-challenged, experiment with something dynamic like martial arts, new to you dancing, or kettlebells.

Here in Leicestershire, there are plenty of local options to explore: adult gymnastics at Hinckley Gymnastics Club, walking groups through Bradgate Park, and even roller-skating meetups at local leisure centres. It’s never too late to try something new.

Choosing Movement

The most powerful change you can make is choosing movement you enjoy. When it’s fun, you’ll keep going long after January motivation fades.

Next week, we’ll explore how to make those changes stick, without falling into the “quit by February” trap.

Make sure you have your next appointment booked in with myself or Jen to ensure you keep your self-care routine in place, especially as you get older it is important to look after your muscles if you want to them to keep working hard for you.
