Being Faster At Your Chosen Sport Being faster is a goal often sought after by runners, cyclists, and swimmers, those three activities being the golden trifecta of the triathlete. If being faster at your chosen sport is your Choose Just One Thing to improve health and fitness wise, then there are plenty of things you can do to improve your speed.

Improve Your Speed

The number one thing you can do, and not many people actually do this because they do not see the relevance, is strength train. Whether you perform bodyweight exercises in the comfort of your own home, or get down the gym, strength training is the number one exercise, after practising your sport of choice, to get you faster. Why?

When muscles are thicker and stronger, they can store more energy in them and they can perform quicker and last longer. You can also reduce your risk of injury by training muscles that get used less during your sport of choice. Strength training also increases the thickness of your tendons, which anchor your muscles to your bone, and ligaments get stronger too, stabilising your joints and making them more mobile for your sport.

There are other things that you can do to increase your speed in your field, and it is best to consult an expert in your sport to help you understand exactly what you need to do. An experienced PT can help you understand your exercise needs too, even if they haven’t competed in your sport. There are now four PTs working at United Gym, get down and find out if any of them suit your needs.
If you are aching or have experienced an injury and that is impeding your speed, then get yourself down to Astral Fitness and let Chloe or Jen sort you out and get you back to your sport faster.
