Why Feeling Better Doesn’t Mean You Should Do More

Why Feeling Better Doesn’t Mean You Should Do More

This time of year is always interesting, as people come in feeling better with more energy and less stiff overall, unless they’ve injured themselves!

And when you’re feeling more energetic and less stiff, the first instinct is to do more…

More sessions, more intensity, more everything!

I get it. It feels good to move, and the weather is so inviting with the warmth and sunshine.

But this is also when small issues start creeping in, but because it is nice, you ignore the niggles and aches and push on through.

Feeling Better Can Be Misleading

Just because something doesn’t hurt right now doesn’t mean your body is ready for more load. A lot of people come out of winter deconditioned because they’ve moved less. Strength has dropped slightly and mobility has tightened up.

Then suddenly, they jump back into full training. That gap is where problems start and why there is always a increase in appointments being needed for Sports Massage at this time of year.

Your Body Still Needs a Base

Before you increase intensity, you need to rebuild your foundation and that means going back to basics. This is also true if you are brand new to exercise, or haven’t exercised in a long time.

Simple movements with controlled reps and good technique.

It might feel too easy at first and that’s fine, but don’t be misled into going ‘all in’ because of that feeling.

You’re rebuilding capacity, not chasing fatigue.

Consistency Beats Intensity

One hard session followed by a week of soreness doesn’t get you very far.

What actually works is consistent, manageable training with something you can repeat week after week without setbacks.

And, this is where structured strength work comes in.

This Is Where Kettlebells Fit in Well

Kettlebells are great for rebuilding strength without overdoing it, you can keep things simple and still get a full-body workout – you control the pace and you control the load.

It’s a much smoother way to return to training.

Think Long Term

The goal isn’t to feel smashed after every session… the goal is to feel better over time.

Stronger. More mobile. Less pain.

That only happens if you build things gradually.

If you’re in that phase where you’re feeling better and want to do more, just take a second to slow it down slightly and focus on doing the basics really well.

If you want a simple structure to follow, my upcoming kettlebell PDF is built exactly for this stage.

It gives you a clear plan without overcomplicating things, so you can build back up properly.
