Be Willing to be a Beginner Every DayChloe usually writes the blogs here at Astral Fitness, but has decided to rest her weary fingers and let Jen takeover for the month of April.

A Catch Up with Jen

In the treatment room at Astral Fitness there is a calendar with a daily saying, thought, or quote. As I turn over to the new day, read the lines, I don’t think too much about it. However, this quote above caught my attention, “Be willing to be a beginner every day” and it resonated with me. It perfectly conveyed my thoughts. Since qualifying nearly 2 years ago, my knowledge, confidence and experience has certainly developed. However, every day is a learning day, and so it should be.

When building up a client base, it allows for a wealth of experience. Over the past months I have observed that most musculoskeletal issues generally come from over-use, under-use or repetitive use. Often clients come to us with problems that stem from underuse. In our modern busy lives, this is not surprising, and there is no judgment from me. Desk workers can spend hours sitting in one position with joints flexed, leaving them vulnerable to tightness. It is very common to have symptoms of aching backs, necks, shoulders etc., What you may not know about me is that I too am a desk worker.

I have another part-time job, which requires me to spend hours sitting and working on a computer. In the last few years an old shoulder mobility issue has crept back into my life. I know what exercises help alleviate it and I know what stretches relieve it. Despite knowing and applying the good advice of movement, stretches, mobility, and posture, I too require regular maintenance massages to keep myself in check – thankfully I know someone who can help!

Using my own issues and experience, and treating similar conditions quite regularly, means I have developed good skills in applying treatments that seem to give positive results. I feel your pain!
Despite my skills and knowledge developing well over the past two years, feeling like a beginner is a positive state of mind, as it drives me to want to learn more. You don’t know what you don’t know!
