Who got inspired by Arnold Scwarzenegger last week? Don’t know what I am talking about? Head over to www.astralfitness.co.uk and take a look at last weeks blog, then pop back here and continue reading.
‘If you don’t find the time, if you don’t do the work, you don’t get the results’. – Arnold Scwarzenegger
Now he may be referring to bigger and bolder workouts, but sometimes there genuinely is not time enough in the day or week to focus on one, let alone get one done. If that is the case, then you need to bring all your focus to one thing until normality resumes; movement snacks.
Much like a foodie snack when you are hungry between meals, or just can’t face a full meal, a movement snack bridges the gap between times in your life that can’t accommodate a full workout. Or are a great way to gently ease your body into movement for the first time, or in a period of recovery.
Vary Your Movement Snacks
Your movement snacks can vary in size, from energy expended to joints moved, to time spent. It can typically look like a few minutes several times a day moving around the different joints of the body.
An example would be, getting up in the morning and before standing up out of bed, having a little reach above your head and a couple of side bends. You might choose to stand on one leg while brushing your teeth to practice balance.
Then once at your desk, you could choose to stick up a picture of different exercises to remind you what to do and work your way through them at choice times.
Spinal rotations, quad stretches, hamstring stretches, chest stretches are all achievable at your desk. Google them. Find what speaks to you.
If you feel that your office is not the right environment to have a good stretch, then every time you visit the bathroom could be where you give your body a little movement and a shake to wake things up. Or maybe you could be the one to start a new movement…(!) within your office of healthier biomechanics and movement practices.
