Visit Astral FitnessWe are still talking to you about what your first appointment might look like. I left off last week talking about the assessments we do with you.

Postural assessments

and biomechanical checks are very important to us when we first meet you. We can see if a muscle is tight or overactive in one area of your body. Or if there is a looseness or underactivity somewhere else. Commonly this can be seen with people who do a lot of desk work, where their shoulders are curved forward. This can tell us a lot about how you have trained your body to behave through repetitive tasks, such as your job. We will be able to formulate a plan for you on how to train your body back from that shape, especially if it is causing you pain.

Biomechanical checks

simply mean how you move. That’s it. Can you squat, deadlift, press? That is, can you sit down, pick something up from the floor, and reach for something on a shelf? Sometimes the movements we ask you to do don’t really mimic everyday movements but will tell us if a particular muscle is bothering you. That then will direct where we will perform the massage.

After all that has happened in the first part of your appointment, it is time to describe to you what area we will massage. As long as you are happy with what we have suggested and why, then massage begins.

Only clothing removed are those pieces covering the part we need to massage. So if you need your legs looking at and arrive in shorts, you’ll only need to remove your shoes. If your back needs looking after, then your top comes off. A towel is held up to protect your modesty.

Next, you position yourself on the table according to what is being massaged. You are covered up with a light towel, and massage begins using a wax of your choice.

Once the massage has finished, you will sit up on the table for a few moments to allow blood to return to your head slowly before dressing. You will be asked to book back in, at no obligation, and then an email is sent to you with your rehabilitation exercises to aid your recovery.
