Weightlifting - It’s Never Too Late to StartAfter becoming proficient in walking about a lot more, you might feel that you could do with more of a challenge to keep your fitness progressing. For that we thoroughly recommend weightlifting.

Yep, you read that right! I do not think you are too old, weightlifting in one of its many forms will do you the world of good. You might need to start with your body weight, or a light resistance band. You might stay with those for a long time. Or a small pair of dumbbells might be the best starting point for you. Hinckley Leisure Centre has an excellent gym and classes for all ages. You might find that this could be a good place for you to start. If you need more personalised support in the gym, you might find joining a smaller gym like United Strength & Conditioning. Where Jen and Chloe work, in a small dedicated room.

Chloe is a qualified personal trainer and can lead you in a personalised strength training program. Aiding your individual needs to get stronger.

Group Exercise

If you don’t like the idea of going it alone, or just know you won’t, then maybe signing up for group classes might be better for you. You will meet like minded people, and you won’t want to miss out on seeing them and improving yourself every time you go to class. Lisa Perry is an excellent Pilates teacher. She can be found teaching at United Gym, as well as in smaller villages so you don’t have to travel so far. If you want something a bit more energetic, you could try Zumba, or spin, or aqua aerobics. The important thing is to try many different types of exercise to find the one or two that fit you best. Start with one class a week and work your way up to two or three to get fit and strong.

Want to chat about your journey and make sure you’re on the right track? Why not book in with myself or Jen and get a full assessment of your current movement ability and see what you need to work on first.
