A Simple Summer Fitness Plan for Busy People

A Simple Summer Fitness Plan for Busy PeopleOne of the most common reasons people struggle with fitness is lack of time, Summer can make this even more challenging. Family activities, holidays, social events, and longer evenings often leave little room for lengthy workouts.

The good news is that you do not need hours in the gym to improve your fitness. A simple and realistic approach can still produce excellent results – start by focusing on movement every day. No, this does not mean intense exercise every day, it simply means finding opportunities to be active; walking the dog, gardening, cycling with the family, or taking an evening stroll all contribute towards your overall activity levels.

Aims

Next, aim for two or three strength training sessions per week. These workouts can be completed in as little as twenty to thirty minutes. Focus on basic movements that train multiple muscle groups at once. Squats, deadlifts, rows, presses, and carries are all excellent choices, and you do not need a large collection of equipment. A kettlebell, a pair of dumbbells, or even body weight exercises can provide plenty of challenge. Consistency matters far more than having access to fancy equipment. Check out my previous blogs about kettlebell exercises. I will be releasing a PDF Beginners Kettlebell Guide in the near future to help you with this.

Plan when you are going to exercise, make an appointment with yourself, otherwise it is too easy to doomscroll away the time you could be exercising, or find another distracting activity. Make exercise as non-negotiable as brushing your teeth. Because it is that important.

Sleep

Sleep is up there along with regular exercise and hydration. Longer daylight hours and busy social calendars can sometimes lead to later nights. However, poor sleep can affect recovery, energy levels, and motivation so prioritising quality sleep can make fitness feel much easier.

Remember that fitness is not about being perfect. Some weeks will be better than others… Life happens… The key is to keep returning to the basics rather than giving up completely.

Keep Things Straightforward

This summer, give yourself permission to keep things straightforward. You do not need a complicated programme or endless hours of exercise. A few simple habits performed regularly can help you feel stronger, fitter, and more energised while still leaving plenty of time to enjoy the season.
